Here are 6 Study tips That will help you to study better.

1.The Brush up
Research shows students tend to retain more when they go through a lecture note minutes after the lectures. This is the principle on which the brush up concept is based.
How to brush up:
► Read through the first paragraph and the last, that’ll give you the ballpark figure.
             ►Then the entire topic
►Underline the important points as you read through, that’ll give you a sense of focus when reading through again.
             ►Read through as if you are reading a newspaper just, leisurely…
At the end ask yourself questions on what you just studied that’ll give you an idea about how much you have actually picked up. Simple as that, but useful as unknowingly your brain is now familiar with the material.

2.Repetition
Repetition Is How the Brain is distinguishing between what’s important to you (for keeping) and what’s not important (ergo auto deletion).
Making a lasting memory is like creating a path for water, the higher the number of repetition the deeper the path gets and thus, the smoother the water runs through it (meaning the faster and smoother you remember what you’ve learned).
       ► Make sure you go through the material at least 3 times.
►The first time you go through it you try and understand what you’re reading as you go, having underlined the important points (from the brush up) you know what to focus on.
►Then you try to write up what you understand from each sub topic (this is optional as others would tend to voice it out) any way you prefer would be fine.
Simple, yet effective.
Sometimes it's the little things that matter.

3.The Morning Revision
The final repetition on the morning of the test.
Back when I was in school, I never studied past 9 pm. I’d play some games or something fun and then go to bed at 10 pm... But of course I had a pretty good understanding of how far I know.
The trick is:
► Sleep early, and wake up early at around 4-5 am.
The advantage of revising the morning of the test is that it cements what is already there, strengthening the recall pathway and it gives you confidence (as you get to know what’s still there and what’s not).
► How early would depend on the bulkiness of the material you’re writing on in general.
What to do;
►You simply brush through making sure you feel “the know” as you read through

4.The Weekend Scheduling
► Here you plan the remaining classes that you didn’t get to brush through during the week(we will talk about the “brush through” later).
► Plan for about 3 to 4 hours on each day of the weekend to execute your plan.
► Having done that, you can even decide to get through the entire 8 hours on one day of the weekend or even Friday night! It all depends on you, nothing is fixed but when you plan it, you reap the benefits.
Of course there will be times when you would not be able to meet up the schedule, you can always improvise when studying for exams.But Trust me if you stick to it you’d be amazed byhow much free time you get and most important of all you’d have a stress-free time never worrying about having not studied.

5.Mnemonics
This use of mnemonics is very useful in assisting with quick recall.
Methods involve;
  • Taking the first letter of a number of words and mixing them in a way you can remember e.g. MVEMJSUN for Mercury Venus Earth Mars Jupiter Saturn Uranus and Neptune.
    • OR WWHAM which represents how a health proffesional responds to symptoms:
    • W -- Who is the patient
    • W -- What are the symptoms
    • H -- How long the are symptoms present
    • A -- Action taken
    • M -- Medication being taken
  • And just like that, you never have to study that again, it sticks with you for lifetime.
  • anything familiar that you can easily remember, or make the letters into a song.. as I said depends on your creativity.
  • There’s another method (came up with this one) however, mnemonics 2.0 I guess;
Say you want to learn the properties of a single subtopic, or members of a group; you can assign the letters of that subtopic to members or properties starting with the same letter.

Example: The Antibiotic drug group; Aminoglycosides
The drugs under it include amikacin, gentamycin, neomycin, streptomycin.so, I assigned…;
Ami – to -- amikacin
The ‘g’ from ‘glycosides’ -to- gentamycin
The ‘n’ from the amino -to- neomycin
And finally, the s from cosides -to- streptomycin.
This is another way of creatively using the mnemonics, and the thing is, once you mentally assign the letters to what you want to remember the moment you see the word you’ll begin to remember without having to think. It serves like an anchor for easy recall.

6.Visualization
This is a cool trick you can use to quickly get familiar, when you come across a new, difficult word (be it to pronounce or spell).
            ►You take a good look at the word first.
            ►Then close your eyes and visualize yourself writing out the word with a pen.
And by visualize, I mean actually imagine how it feels writing out the word, be it the smell of the ink, the smoothness of the pen on paper or simply how you write out the words. Just make it different, personal, yours.
This is an amazing trick that has helped me learn so many scientific words in Pharmacy school, it takes time to realize it’s effect (I mean to perfect it’s use) but believe me it works.
