#6. SYNTHESIZING

Synthesizing, study well, the Aureus Method, learning tips

Now you know how to take notes. But to take effective and useful notes, you must be able tu synthesize.

Why synthesize?

By doing this, you will have a clear vision of the big picture. This big picture will help you relate every idea to each other.
Doing it will make your notes more effective and useful. Will help you understand better what you study, making it simpler.

How to synthesize

To do so, there are a few basic things you should know:
  • Use a paper sheet, and write only using one face
  • Distribute the information in an organized way inside the sheet
  • Everything must be clean
  • Use different colors and underline what's important
  • Use different letter sizes, charts, drawings...
  • Save the maximum number of words
  • Represent only important information
  • Create a structure
To synthesize, you can take a look at MIND MAPPING post and how to make DIAGRAMS,

I also want to give you a simple example of how to synthesize.
Also read it : How to be productive?
Example
Here you have a text below. You will see that after every paragraph, there are words in bold. These words are the main ideas. With the main ideas we will later do a simple synthesizing exercise. Let's begin!

WATER: PRECIOUS RESOURCE

Water is one of the most precious resources we have on earth. It helps us, animals and plants live. It is the first step on the development of life.

Water
Water can be found in many places on earth. Seas, where there is a big amount of water, lakes, in the big mountains, and rivers, nearly anywhere in the world.

Sea, River, Lake
Of course, in the seas the water has salt, and you cannot drink it. In rivers and lakes, the water is fresh, and therefore you can drink it.

Saltwater, Freshwater
This water is changing every moment. We don't realized it, but it is. It turns into gas and goes into the clouds. And then it rains, and goes back to liquid. And in the poles, it is so cold that ir turns into a solid state: ice.

Gas, Liquid, Solid
Water has many uses. In our homes, we use it to drink, but we also use it to clean ourselves and our dishes or clothes. In summer, we go to the pool and swim around and play with our friends.

Drink, Clean, Refresh
That's what water is to us.
This is a very simple text, of course, but you get the main idea. Now that we have the most important points, we can synthesize. What you see here is a super simple mindmap, but it synthesizes all the points stated in the text.

Knowing that, you are ready to do it yourself!

#7. MEMORIZING

Memorization, how to memorize, Study tips, The Aureus Method

Memorizing is one of the hardest things for some people. Don't worry if you are not good at memorizing. I'm going to reveal you the secrets of it.

Two ways

There are two ways of memorizing:
  • Bad way: Repeat like a parrot, retain information in short term, go to the exam, do it and forget.
  • Good way: Using a consistent method, retaining information by comprehension and achieving long term memorization.
Needless to say, I want you to use the good way.
Also read it : How to memorize fast?
But first, we should see how does memory work.

The process of memorization

The process is very simple:
  1. Acquisition: The information comes in. Here are some tips to be a pro at acquiring information: Don't overwhelm yourself with lots of information, acquisition takes time. Take notes while doing it, this helps you get the information inside your brain. Plan some breaks in your studying.
  2. Retention: For this part, we will use special techniques designed for taking better retention. We will see them later in this chapter.
  3. Evocation: This is remembering the information. If you used the retention methods, you won't have trouble with this. Some tips for this part: Stay relaxed, it works better. Remember the big picture, and then go into detail if necessary.
Now, let's talk about the most difficult part: Retention.

Retention

The retention part is the hardest. You need to memorize all this information, but repeating. it is just not enough.

Don't worry, I have some techniques that will make you remember anything you want.

They are explained in the "Study Hacks" Posts. so I won't explain them here. Don't worry, click on the following link and see them for yourself!
